Self Reflection Blog

June 2nd, 2009 by · No Comments · Uncategorized

1.  In your opinion, what was the purpose of this blogging activity? (Why did I choose to do blogging instead of more traditional writing activities?)

1.  In my opinion, the purpose of the bloggining activity was for students to express their feelings and to write about what’s in our mind and not what Ms. Rumford always assigned us.  Also, I think the purpose of blogging was for us to improve our writing skills and sentence structure skills.  One thing that helped my writing improve was from learning different kind of sentences structure such as main clause and subordinate clauses.  Adding specific writing techniques in our blog helped our writing to improve and the more we use the techniques in our writing the better writers we will become.  In the beginning, I thought wiki’s were way easier to use because Ms. Rumford assigned us the task and we answered the questions, but for the edublogs I had difficulties of thinking what to write about.  Even though I was writing about a subject I know a lot about, I still learned new information about the soccer teams from doing research.  When we first started blogging, I thought it was really stupid because we wouldn’t learn anything from this.  But fortunately, time by time, I learned many different writing skills and writing techniques that we learned in class to use in blogging.

2.  What have you accomplished during your blogging?

I have accomplished many goals during blogging.  First of all, I need to thank Ms. Rumford because she gave people the chance to write about anything we wanted and that’s one thing I really liked about Ms. Rumford.  Also, I learned what blogging was and that people all around the world blog.  Furthermore, I think that my writing improved a lot from blogging and I became a stonger writer.  Learning about the different types of sentences was one reason that improved my writing skills.  Before we started blogging, I wasn’t focused about a main clause or a subordinate clause, but when I started blogging, I used these techniques more often in my writing and in my blog four I got a 47/50 which was a big improvement from any other blog.  I have also accomplished learning more about the European soccer teams and comparing two good teams together which made me learn more about these two teams.  I really enjoyed blogging because I wrote about what I wanted and expressed my feelings during blogging.

3.  What key concepts have you learned while blogging? (This can be about writing, research or technology etc.)

Firstly, while I was blogging, I had to research in almost all the blogs to get the information and history about the teams I was talking about.  I learned how to go deep in the subject and give specific information about the subject I’m talking about and support my idea.  I of course did not learn how to research but I improved in researching for historical facts about the soccer teams.  Furthermore, I learned that blogging was not just writing about a subject but it was also posting videos, pictures and website links connecting to the subject.  A couple thing that I did while I was blogging was posting links to other websites connecting with the subject and videos.  When I first started my blog I didn’t know how to use it well or how to play around with it because I never had a blog, but now I know how to use a blog and how to post a blog. Another thing I learned while I was blogging was to attach a definition link to the vocabulary word I was using.  When I first started blogging, I never thought I was going to research about Inter Milan and Barcelona because I thought I knew those teams well, but I then realized that I needed to write more about these teams and talk about their big history.

4. Based on the skills you learned while blogging, how will this benefit you in the future? This maybe inside or outside of school.

Based on the skills I learned while I was blogging, it will benefit me in the future.  Learning about the different sentences will help me write in other class in the future.  Also, this will help me in science or Social Studies when I’m researching because I learned how to go deep in the subject I’m talking about and get specific information.  In addition, next time I have to do a blog in mass media or in the future, it will be easier for me because I know how to use a blog and how to play around with it.  It will be easy for me because I will know what my subject will be about and what I’ll write about.  This will also help me in high school because I will be used to writing a 500 word essay every week and I won’t have a problem with that.  In the end, and after writing five blogs, I feel that I am better at blogging now and I feel more comfortable about posting a blog in front of the whole world.

The Red Devils

May 23rd, 2009 by · No Comments · Uncategorized

Manchester United is an English football team that was established in 1878.  The players are also known as The Red Devils. They are located at Old Trafford in Northwest England. Manchester United is one of the best and most popular clubs in the world.  Manchester United joined the Primary League in 1992, and played in first division in England since 1938.  The only years that Manchester United didn’t play in the first division were in 1974-1975 after going down to second division.

Man United are the top English Champions and World Cup holders after winning the 2008-09 Primary League, the UEFA cup in 2007-08, and the 2008 FIFA Club World Cup.  Manchester United is also the most successful team in England after winning 22 cup or titles since Alex Ferguson became coach of the team in November, 1986.  Manchester United became the first club to win the European Cup when they won versus Benfica 4-1 in 1968.  Manchester also won their second European cup in 1999 and the third in 2008.  The Red Devils are the team that held the most Primary league in England with 18 titles.  More added, Manchester United is also the team that won the most the FA cup in England winning it 11 times.

Manchester has been the richest club since the 1990’s with the highest income higher than any other team in the world.  Until now, Manchester United is ranked as the richest club in the world having £897 million ($1.8 billion).  Manchester United’s stadium is called the Old Trafford which is located at Sir Matt Busby Way, Old Trafford, Greater Manchester, England.  The stadium opened in February 19, 1910, holding a capatiy of 76,212 seats.

Manchester United have the best player in the world which is Christiano Ronaldo.  Christiano Ronaldo won the FIFA’s world player of the year and also was the first Ballon d’Or winner for Man United in 40 years.  Manchester United have many experienced players such as the team captain, Garry Neville, and Ryan Giggs, who played for Manchester his whole life.  Ryan Giggs was the first person to win PFA Young Player of the Year two consecutive times and also was the only player to play and score in every Primary League.

I chose to talk about Manchester United because it is one of my top five clubs in the world.  Also,  Manchester United is one of the teams that I get excited and have fun while I watch there matches because they have very high qualiti of players.  Manchester is a champion’s team and they have to win a cup every year.  For the past three years, Manchester United won the Primary league three consecutive times and the UEFA cup in 2008.

You’ll Never Walk Alone, Al-Rayyan

May 17th, 2009 by · No Comments · Uncategorized

In my edublog I’m going to talk about a very sad story about a team which had the best opportunity to win all the four cups or tournaments the season 08/09 but they refused to.  Al-Rayyan is also known as the lion or “the frightful.”  The lions have achieved many cups and tournaments in their history such as the Qatari League seven times, Qatar Crown Prince Cup three times, and the Amir Cup three times, and lastly, Sheikh Jassim Cup two times.

Al-Rayyan’s fans are one of the biggest fans in Qatar as well as Al-Arabi sports club.  The weird thing is that the last time these two teams won the league was 10 to 12 years ago, but having the most fans to cheer and support them is might be something negative on the players.  My question is, are the fans creating pressure on the players or the coach?  I see Al-Sadd and Al-Gharrfa winning cups every year without many fans to cheer them.  Al-Rayyan fans deserve more than one cup this season because every time they go to the stadium and cheer the team, but unfortunately there seems to be no use for the fans going.  Also, Al-Rayyan’s fans don’t just go to the matches, but they also go to the practices to give the players high spirit and confidence.  Al-Rayyan players don’t have feelings for the fans that are wasting their time and doing what they are supposed to do to win a cup but the players refused to make the fans happy.

For the first time in 10 years, Al-Rayyan competed in all of the four cups but unfortunately they didn’t win any tournaments this season.  The first cup was Shaikh Jassim Cup which ended up in a big loss for Al-Rayyan from Al-Arabi, 3-0 in the finals.  The second tournament was the QSL- Qatar Stars league where Al-Rayyan proved to everyone they are a big team and that they can compete on tournaments.  The lions were in first place from the 5th week to the last three weeks but sadly The Lions couldn’t hold it until the end and they gave to the League to Al-Gharrafa as if the players were saying, “There you go Al-Gharrafa you can have the Qatar League for the second time in a row.”  The third cup was the Heir Apparent Cup which Al-Rayyan lost versus Qatar Sports Club 4-2 in the penalties shoot out.  The last cup in the season was the last chance for Al-Rayyan fans but too bad they lost 2-1 from Al-Gharrafa again, so not only did they gIve the League to the leopards but they also gave the leopards the Amir Cup to them.

Every one agreed that Al-Rayyan deserved at least one cup this season after the team’s president Al-Sheikh Saud Bin Nasser brought the best players around the world for Al-Rayyan but the luck was against us.  I don’t think that the foreign players deserve to play in Al-Rayyan because in my opinion I think they are bigger than Al-Rayyan and it’s really sad for them to play in this team that doesn’t know how to win cup.  Also, Al-Rayyan’s Managers bought the best Qatari players from different teams to win cups for the team but unfortunately they weren’t men enough to make Al-Rayyans fans dream come true.  But no matter what happens, one thing that Al-Rayyan will have forever are the fans that always stand with the team where ever they go and cheer them up even if they are in their worst days.

My questions to Al-Rayyan sports club managers and presedent are when is Al-Rayyan going to come back like the old days and when cups for the team?  When are the players going to feel guilty and try to fix there mistakes for 45% the fans in Qatar?  Can Al-Rayyan win the Qatari League next year after loosing it for 14 years?  I hope all these questions can get answered in the field next year and that Al-Rayyan will come back.  But there is one thing that people need to know and that thing is that Al-Rayyan (The Lions) will never walk alone.

Who are Inter Milan?

May 12th, 2009 by · No Comments · Uncategorized

Football Club Internazionale Milano, known as Inter Milan in Italy is an Italian professional football club.  Inter Milan is based in Milan, Lombardy which was founded in 1908.

Inter Milan spent all their years in Italian football in Series A, making them the only team to stay in Serie A in the history of Italia from 1929 until 2009.  Inter Milan’s  home kit is black and white stripe shirt with black shorts and their away kit is white shirt with a red cross on it and white shorts.  In history, Inter Milan is the third most team that won the Series A title with 16 times after AC Milan and Juventus.  Inter has as achieved many cups in Italy like the Coppa Italia and the Italian Super cup.  Over all, Inter Milan has achieved 25 trophies in Italy.  In the European cups, Inter has won many cups in Europe and around the world such the European cup in 1964, and 1965.  Inter also have achieved the UEFA cup three times and International Cup in the same years of the European Cup in 1964 and 1965.

Inter Milan’s stadium is called Stadio Giuseppe Meazza, which is also known as San Siro.  Inter Milan’s stadium San Siro is also used by opponents A.C. Milan and is the largest stadium in Italian football with a capacity of 80,018.

Inter Milan have many good experienced players such as, Javier Zanneti, Luis Figo, and Julio Cesear a very well experienced goalie.  More added, Esteban Cambiasso, Dejan Stankovic, Adriano, Patrick Viera, are all very experienced players and well talented, and they all play with their national team.  Furthermore, Inter claims one of the top five forwards in the world which is Zlatan Ibarhimovic

In the Italian Calcio League A I cheer Inter Milan because they are one of the best five teams I’ve seen play clean football.  Also, Inter Milan plays a fair game and does not cheat at all; For example Juventus once payed the referee to cheat for them and they got caught and they went to second division.  Many teams have relationships with the referee to cheat for them or to help them win the match but Inter Milan is one of the teams I saw play very fair and nice play.  More into it, Inter Milan is the second richest club in Italy after AC Milan, and the sixth richest club in world with €316 million.  This is a link that Inter were amazing in after defeating Milan 2-1, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P-7o85kYYYE and

El-Clasico

Barcelona versus Real Madrid is mostly known as El-Clasico. Barcelona and Real Madrid are the biggest two teams in Spain and are also very famous around the world. The previous time these two teams player was on May 2nd, 2009 at Santiago Bernabou, which is Real Madrid’s stadium which finished in a massive win for Barcelona 6-2 and in fact this year Real Madrid could not beat Barcelona after losing in the first term of the Spanish league and losing 6-2 in the second term in the league. For example, these are videos for Barcelona versus Real Madrid this year which ended up with wins for Barcelona

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zoBS_fUUpaI , and http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=22veHOkn75I.

The colors of Real Madrid are white shirt with black stripes on the side for home kit and black shirt and white stripes for the away kit. Real Madrid won 72 cups from the year it was established in 1902. Real Madrid won the Spanish League 31 times which is the most important competition in Spain. More added, Madrid won the European cup five times, the UEFA cup two times and many other cups in Spain. Real Madrid’s stadium is known as Santiago Bernabéu Stadium and was named after the elected president of 1943. Santiago was the most president to achieve cups with Real Madrid after winning 16 cups during his period of time as a president.

Barcelona’s home kit is Blue and Garnet and their away kit is a yellow shirt with navy pants. Barcelona has won the Spanish league 18 times and they’re on the way for the 19th for the season 08/09. Barcelona is also one of the best clubs in Europe after winning 11 European cups. Barcelona won two UEFA Super Cups, two European Cups, three Inter-Cities Fairs Cup and many other cups. Barcelona’s stadium is Camp Nou which is one of the largest stadiums in Europe with a capacity of 98,772 seats. 25.7% of the Spanish population support Barcelona and they are also one of the most fans in Spain with approximately of 44.2 million fans, Barcelona’s fans are also known as cules. In 07-08 Barcelona was the third richest team in the world with a profit of 308.8 million

I support Barcelona because I think that they are the best team in Europe. Also, I support Barcelona because they are one of the best teams in the world and they have famous players such as Iniesta, Messi, Eto’o, and Henry, Xavi, Puyol, and many other players that are really famous. Furthermore, I support Barcelona because they’re the kind of team that makes you enjoy watching them and not get bored while watching their match. For example, yesterday on May 2nd, 2009 Barcelona played versus Real Madrid and they crushed them 6-2 in Real Madrid’s stadium which I really enjoyed because they played a clean match and scored many goals.

Association football, also known as soccer, is considered the most popular sport in the world. Soccer, or football, is played between two teams and each team has 11 players on the football field not including the substitute, and each team is allowed to have three substitutions during the 90 minute game. Soccer is played on a rectangular grass field with a circle in the middle of the field where the kick off starts. Also, there are two goals in the center of each end of the field. The objective of the game is to get the soccer ball into the opposite goal. The goalkeeper is the only player that is allowed to use his hands or arms to prevent the ball from going into the goal. The goal keeper is the player that stands on the line of the goal and saves the ball from going into the goal. The rest of the team use their feet or heads to get the ball to the other goal or to score. If any of the other players touches the ball with his hands it is a foul and a free kick for the other team. The team that scores the most goals is the winner but if the match ends in a tie, there will be extra time and then a penalty shootout, depending on the competition.

Fouls are when a player pushes his opponent, hands the ball on purpose, tripping the opponent, or a harsh tackle from the back or front are all fouls. If there is any foul inside the 18 yards box it will be a penalty kick and maybe a yellow or red card. If the player gets two yellow cards he will be sent out with a red and no substitution will be allowed to replace the player so the team will play with 10 players. The 18 box yard is where the goalie can touch the ball with his hand and if he goes past the line touching the ball with his hand it will be a yellow or a red card.

The lengths of the pitch in the international matches are 110 to 120 yards but in width its 70-80 yards. Fields for non-international matches are 100 to 130 yards and in width 50 to 100 yards. The white lines are the boundary lines and if the ball goes past that line from the opponent team it’s a throw in for your team. If the ball passes the boundary line from the goal side from the opponent it will be a corner kick.

The FIFA World Cup is the most popular and most important cup in the world and it is held every four years in one country. More than 190 countries compete to qualify for the final round of the FIFA World Cup. Only 32 teams go to the finals of the World Cup. In 2006 the FIFA World Cup was held in Germany but in 2010 the competition will be held in South Africa. There are many continental competitions such as the European Championship (UEFA), the Copa América (CONMEBOL), African Cup of Nations (CAF), the Asian Cup (AFC). There are different continental cups for example, there is the continental cup for the clubs and there is a continental cup for national teams.

How does freedom of speech relate to me as a blogger?

In my opinion I think that freedom has its positives but also its negatives. I think everyone has the right to express their feelings and to speak out what’s inside them in a respectful way. Also, my opinion is that people have the right to follow any religion they believe in and that they are confident in. But the negative thing is that people sometimes over react and start to get inappropriate, and I think the person should say it in a respectful way.

In the first amendment it says freedom of assembly, freedom of press, and freedom of religion. That is really important because it gives people the right to practice any religion they want and not followed by the government. Also, freedom lets people protest and to express their own ideas and views and to hear ideas and view of others. I think people should have the right to have freedom of speech because it let’s media say whatever they want without getting in trouble. Freedom of speech is expressed in many different ways such as the radio, internet, videos, and documentaries.

This topic is related to me and to everyone, and I have the right to say what I want but I have to be sure that it is the fact and that I be respectful so I don’t hurt someone’s feelings by what I say. For example, if I want to write something on the internet it has to be said in a constructive way and not hurting other people’s feelings. Also I have the right to practice any religion I want because its freedom of religion.
